ANNAPURNA LOK – TEMPLE RENOVATION AND MAA ANNAPURNA PRAN PRATISHTHAN MAHOTSAV

Indore, Madhya Pradesh

The Annapurna Temple in Indore has long held spiritual significance, with its origins tracing back to 1959 when it was first established by Swami Prabhanand Giriji Maharaj. Drawing inspiration from his disciple, Pujya Mahamandleshwar Acharya Swami Vishveshwaranand Giri Ji, a grand renovation was launched in 2020 under the guidance of Shri Vinod Agarwal, Convenor of the Annapurna Lok project. Supported by Trustees including Shri Gopal Das Mittal, Shri Jagdish Patel, Shri Dinesh, Shri Shyam Mittal, and hundreds of dedicated devotees, this transformative initiative has reimagined the temple as a modern spiritual landmark. Their shared goal was to create not just a place of worship, but a cultural and architectural marvel that reflects deep spiritual roots and welcomes the growing number of devotees.

The newly redeveloped Annapurna Lok now spans 6,600 square feet, built in the classical Nagara architectural style, distinguished by intricate carvings and a towering 81-foot shikhara. Constructed entirely without the use of iron, the structure is supported by 51 finely sculpted pillars made from Makrana marble, each intricately engraved with representations of over 300 deities. Rising to a total height of 110 feet, the temple now stands as one of the most iconic spiritual landmarks in Indore.

The “Maa Annapurna Pran Pratishthan Mahotsav,” held from January 31 to February 7, 2023, marked the ceremonial consecration of the temple. The event drew over five lakh devotees and featured sacred rituals performed by more than 100 learned scholars, including shloka chanting, fire offerings, and the ceremonial raising of the temple flag. It was graced by prominent spiritual leaders and attended by a large gathering of devotees and dignitaries, symbolizing the unity of devotion and tradition.

Today, Annapurna Lok receives thousands of pilgrims daily, with weekend footfalls reaching 10,000, making it not only a spiritual hub but also a cultural and economic catalyst for the region. The temple’s grandeur and inclusivity reflect the vision of its founders—to create a sacred destination that welcomes all, inspires awe, and nourishes the soul.
